Feeling stuck? Try these 6 tips.
Sometimes we find ourselves at a crossroads. We get stuck and don’t know which way to go or what to do next. Maybe you recognise this stuckness?
It’s often when we need to make a big decision, such as a career or life change.
Sometimes it’s when we are experiencing a transition – moving into a new role at work, when our children start school, or leave home.
It can be overwhelming - being stuck in indecision.
It might be that we know what we need to do, but are paralysed by self-doubt and the fear of making the wrong choice.
It’s totally normal to get stuck every once in a while – given the amount of simple and complex decisions we need to take on a daily basis (around 35,000 apparently – mind blown!).
Here are some things I try when I’m feeling stuck that I’d like to share with you:
1. Stop trying to THINK up an answer to your stuckness. Use your body instead. Weird as it sounds, the body often has the answers. Dance, move, run, walk and see where it takes you.
2. Write through it. Open the page and splurge it out. Things often look different once they’re out of your head.
3. Ask yourself, “What would 10-year-old me do right now?” – the answers can be eye-opening.
4. Work with a coach to unpick the stuckness and get clarity.
5. Ask, “What is the most simple thing I can do right now to move me forward?”
6. Lean into your values. Fill in the blanks in this sentence: “If I were really honouring my value of {blank}, I would {blank}.”
For example, if I were really honouring my value of {family}, I would {ask for more flexible working hours}.
If you want to find out what your top values are, check out my blog post on values.
Give them a try and see if they work for you.
What do you do to move forwards when you are feeling stuck?
I’d love to know.
